![]() ![]() perhaps I need just a cap with a little more pressure? I have a 16 pound cap on it now. Is that I put a little hand pressure on my cap and the bubbles slow to about nothing. Made it all the way to work (25 miles and a idling stop at Micky D's) without the low coolant light going on even once. A defective thermostat can compound this problem. When the system equalizes, the coolant comes back up and the light goes out. As it surges, it drops below the sensor and turns the light on. The reason for the low coolant light is because the coolant will surge up and down in the radiator, especially if there is a slight head gasket leak. If you see bubbles, the probable cause is head gaskets seeping. If so, release the cap slowly, make sure the coolant is at the top of the neck in the radiator, start the engine and observe for bubbles in the coolant. It should not be holding pressure after the engine cools off. When the engine is cold, check to see if the top radiator hose is still hard, maintaining pressure. It's possible to have combustion gas get into the coolant without the loss of coolant or the dreaded "white smoke". This is usually caused by combustion gasses getting into the coolant via a leaking/seeping head gasket. If the pressure builds above the caps rated pressure, bubbling will result. The other cause is excessive cooling system pressure, escaping into the recovery canister because the cap is set to release at 16#, give or take. ![]() The other alternative is to just replace the cap but "stand back and throw parts" isn't the best way to diagnose a problem. Most shops have a pressure tester for this. My fingers are crossed and I'm grateful in advance to any replies I get.ĩ3 GMC Sierra 3500 Dually - Coolest truck I ever owned.īubbling in the recovery canister is a sign of cooling system pressure. there is no coolant in my oil, and there is no oil in my overflow tank. I'm sorry this is long winded, but I'm hoping an expert or someone that has seen this before can help me cure this problem, and I'm praying it's not another head gasket issue. My 6.5 diesle got a consistent 19 mpg, this on only gets about 15 all the time. Could this be an issue with my thermostat? I see on the forum that 195 should be the correct thermostat to use. It runs good, and drives good, but I'm extremely nervous that this could be another blown head gasket in the making.Īnother symptom I notice is that this truck doesn't run very hot. weird eh? The truck has not since overheated and I've put another 1500 miles on it since this happened. ![]() When I check the coolant, it's never needs much added and it's not down below the sensor. It's seems to not do it as much but it still comes on once in a while. I would think that when you shut the engine down, the coolant would cool down and be sucked back into the radiator, is this what the bubbling sound is?Īlso, I replaced the low coolant sensor and it still comes on and off all the time. It's not pushing a ton of coolant into it or anything but I'm wondering what the gurgling is for, I hadn't noticed it before. I have no white smoke in my exhast but I do notice that when I shut down the engine, I hear and see gurgling in the overflow. Never overheated again, but the light kept coming on and off. I filled it and continued on my vacation. However within a minute, the engine cooled and I continued driving a few miles to my destination ( less than 5 miles ) i checked the coolant in the morning and it was only about a 1/2 gallon low. At one point the engine overheated and the check gauges light came on. I recently drove over 3000 miles on vacation. For the last month or so the low coolant light would come on and go off for no reason while driving. I've put about 20,000 in it since I changed it out. My new (Used) engine only has about 60,000 miles on it and I'm having problems. I knew it was this because of constant white smoke in the exhaust, and extreme pressure in the coolant system that was blowing coolant into the overflow. I switched it because I either blew a head gasket in the 6.5 or had a cracked head. I just recently replaced my 6.5 diesel engine in my with a used Military 6.2 Diesel from 87. Hi! I'm new to this forum and I joined in hopes I could get some help with this issue I'm having.
